2021 “Walk the Walk” Scholarship Winner: Lamar Gilchrist

This year, we offered the “Walk the Walk” Scholarship. It was granted to a student at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. The scholarship focused on the principles of humility, resiliency, community support, authenticity, and perseverance. Lamar Gilchrist was the ideal candidate for the scholarship. He embodied all the principles in his academic work. He also demonstrated them in his extra-curricular activities.

Lamar is a standout leader on the Tennis team, the Beta Club, and the National Honor Society. He is also part of the NC State Math and Science Education Pre-College program. Somehow, he still has time to volunteer at a local elementary school. He volunteers his time with the “Ebony Racket Club” which encourages African-American students interested in tennis through training and mentorship. Lamar has a 4.06 GPA. He is ranked #30 in his class. He plans to attend North Carolina Central University. We know he will continue to do great things there.
